Colyte Split Dose

Five to Seven Days Before Your Exam

Daily Medications: If you are taking Coumadin (warfarin), Plavix (clopidigrel) Aspirin, Jantoven, Effient, Lovenox or other blood thinners, you must speak with your prescribing physician at least 2 weeks before the scheduled test. DO NOT STOP these medications without the consent of your physician.

Stop taking non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (i.e. Ibuprofen, Advil, Motrin, and Aleve) 5-7 days prior to your exam.

Three Days Before Your Exam

Fill your prescription for Colyte.

Two Days Before Your Exam

Drink at least 8 glasses of water during the day and stop eating solid foods no later than midnight.

One Day Before Your Exam

No solid food for the entire day.

Clear liquids only - breakfast, lunch and dinner. Drink at least 8 glasses of water to avoid dehydration.

Mix the Colyte solution as directed on the label with one (1) gallon or (4 liters) of water. You may add a flavor packet from the pharmacy.

At 5:00pm begin drinking one (1) 8 oz. glass of Colyte solution every 10 minutes until half of the jug has been consumed. This should take approximately 2 hours to complete. If you feel full or become nauseated by drinking the solution then slow down and finish it before midnight.

It is very important to drink 2 liters of Colyte the evening prior to your exam.

Morning of Your Exam

Six hours before your exam, finish drinking the remaining ½ gallon or 2 liters of Colyte. It is important that you have finished the remaining 2 liters of your colon preparation at least 4 hours prior to your scheduled procedure time.

Four hours before the exam, stop drinking all clear liquids.

If you take medication for high blood pressure, seizures, asthma, thyroid disease, irregular heart beat or prednisone, you must take your medications at 5 am.

Nothing by mouth four hours prior to your procedure.
